PD engineers in demand
Carisanne leaves Peterhead after Bill
Mackie Engineering fitted a new Finnoy gearbox.
A
SUCCESSION of new engine installations and major rebuilds has kept Bill
Mackie Engineering Ltd of Peterhead busy in recent months.
A recent job was on Whitby skipper Andrew Leadley's 20.36m twin rig
trawler Carisanne FR 113, which was tied-up in Peterhead with gearbox
problems.
Mackie Engineering installed a new custom made Finnoy 5:1 reduction
gearbox that involved the Caterpillar 3412 main engine being moved
forward. Mackie Engineering is an agent for Finnoy and ZF gearboxes.
Recent new main engine installations include replacing the existing
Deutz units on the Orkney trawler Arkh Angell and Lossiemouth Skipper
Bill Fraser's seiner Rymarlee with Caterpillar 3508B and 3412 models
respectively. Peterhead skipper Willie Lauder's pair-seiner Moremma PD
135 was also fitted with a new Kelvin TS8 main engine.
Bill Mackie Engineering also specialises in repairs to gearboxes and
sterngear. The company recently fitted a new tailshaft and Reintjes
gearbox to Peterhead Skipper William McLeman's 23.95m twin rig trawler
Victoria May.
Tom Nicholson's 32.5m Kirkcudbright based scalloper Mattanja TN 36 also
had a new tailshaft fitted earlier this year, as part of a major job
which included removing, refurbishing and reinstalling the gearbox.
The Twin Disc gearbox on the Fraserburgh twin rig trawler Valhalla was
also removed for refurbishment. A new gearbox was fitted to Andrew
Buchan's seine netter Achieve FR 100, while the Jasper had new stern
gear fitted.
Mackie Engineering has also completed a number of modifications and new
installations of deck machinery, including the local Peterhead twin-rig
trawler Leanne.
